Clock In and Out on Mobile
Learn how to clock in and out, clock your breaks on-site or off-site and troubleshoot error messages when the location isn't supported.
Before You Begin: Profile Picture
To use Contactless Clock In/Out, you must have an approved profile picture saved in Alkimii. Your HR team must review and approve it before you can clock in.
Your photo must:
- Show only you — no other people in the frame
- Clearly show your full face, looking directly at the camera
- Be taken in good lighting — no shadows or glare
- Have no filters, heavy editing, or stylised effects
- Be a recent, clear image — not blurry or pixelated
Quick Checks Before You Clock In
Before you start, make sure:
- Camera, Gallery, and Location permissions are set to "Always Allow" or "While using the App"
- If you work across multiple sites — confirm you are physically within the correct site
- You have a good Wi-Fi or data connection

Clocking In
- Open the Clock In screen using any of the options above
- Your current Clock Status will appear at the top of the screen
- Tap the blue button at the bottom of the screen to take a selfie and clock in
- Repeat this same process to: Start Break → Finish Break → Clock Out
🚨 Please clock in as soon as your shift begins. Your name only appears on the emergency evacuation list once you have clocked in. In the event of a fire or other emergency, this is the list used by management and emergency services to account for everyone's safety. If you haven't clocked in, your team may not know you are in the building.
Break Reminders
- You will receive a notification reminding you to take your break, based on your site's break rules
- This reminder will repeat every 30 minutes until your break has been clocked

⚠️ To turn off break notifications, go to My Settings in the Alkimii app.
❗ Error Messages — What They Mean and What to Do
If something goes wrong when you try to clock in, check the list below to find your error and follow the steps to fix it.
Error: "Profile picture does not match the person who clocked in"
What this means: The selfie you took did not match the profile picture saved in Alkimii.
What to do:
- Try again in better lighting, facing the camera directly with your full face visible.
- If it keeps failing, you will be prompted to upload a new profile picture. Follow the steps to submit one — it will be sent to HR for approval.
- While you wait for approval, ask your manager to clock you in manually.
Error: "Location not supported"
What this means: Your phone thinks you are outside the approved area for clocking in. Every site has a set clock-in radius, which is configured by your management team.
What to do:
- Make sure you are physically inside the building or on site.
- Check that Location permissions for the Alkimii app are set to "Always Allow" or "While using the App."
- If you are definitely on site and still seeing this error, speak to your manager — the clock-in radius may need to be reviewed.
Error: "You do not have an approved profile picture set up in Alkimii"
What this means: Either no profile picture has been uploaded to your account, or it is still waiting for HR approval.
What to do:
- Upload a profile picture that meets the requirements listed at the top of this guide.
- Once submitted, HR will review and approve it. You will receive a notification when it is ready.
- In the meantime, ask your manager to clock you in manually.
