What is a Bradford Score and how is it calculated?

The Bradford Score Explained: Definition and Calculation Guide

What is the Bradford Score?

The Bradford Score is a widely used tool for measuring employee absence, helping organisations identify patterns of short-term, frequent absenteeism that may impact productivity. Named after its development at the Bradford University School of Management, this scoring system assigns a numerical value to absence frequency and duration, offering managers a clear insight into potential attendance issues.

How is it calculated in Alkimii?

The Bradford Score is a metric used to identify problematic absenteeism, especially frequent, short-term absences. In Alkimii it is calculated as:

Bradford Score (B) = S² × D
  • S = total instances of absence
  • D = total days absent

Absenses that have been scheduled through the HR > Leave section of the Staff Profile will not affect a team member's Bradford Score.

What type of leave is included in the calculation of the Bradford Score?

  1. Sickness
  2. Unplanned
  3. Unauthorized

Please be advised that shift types can be configured per hotel request. If you want to learn more, please contact our customer success team at hello@alkimii.com
